I'm like a hairdresser.

May The 4th Be With You

You know what they say about hairdressers? They never have their hair done. Well, I feel like I'm the same way. I spend so much time producing for others that I neglect to make things for DHP. Here we are, May the 4th (be with you!) and I'm just now getting to this blog. I've been blogging since before it was called blogging (Sit On The Sofa in the '90's and Weird Chronicles) and in 2007, I posted my first vlog to YouTube. At the time, I really thought that it would be completely manageable to weekly vlog and run a business. I think I got five vlogs in and just started using YouTube as a repository for current projects. If you look through the over three hundred videos I've posted (not counting all the ones set to private), you can see it change from vlog-type content to just the spot du-jour.

Speaking of vlogs, I had an interesting conversation with an old client about adopting a less formal video style to help position him as an authority on what he sells. This is something I've been recommending since YouTube first came on the scene back in the early '00's. But, it's usually folks with a more fearless attitude that tends to adopt this tool. I am not one of them, even though I did a lot of on-camera stuff early in my career, I too have shied away from doing anything in front of a camera. That's a mistake... Perhaps it's time to revive that old vlog, and do something interesting? Maybe have some clients on and talk strategy or some colleagues from the advertising, video production, and film industries and talk about all of the things we've learned over the years. I might even show you how to make a commercial from start to finish. There's already so much content out there, but there's always room for new voices. Including yours. If you want to establish yourself as an authority on something, the best way to do that is to show your knowledge. Demonstrate that you are, by far, the best person to contact about X, Y, or Z topic. What better way to do that than with a vlog or a podcast? These days, it's easier than ever. You have a phone? Then you pretty much have a production studio in the palm of your hand. If you want something a little nicer quality then give your friendly neighborhood production studio or us a call, we can help.

All right time for some brainstorming and thank you for stopping by!
